Rolling a Mage and bring it to maximum level are a long and painful work. When it comes to damage dealing and utilities in groups or raid play, the result in the end is a character with an extreme versatility. It is by far the best and most enjoyable class.
World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King has changed several areas for a Mage within the game. Mages are known for their ability to use the elements that consist of arcane, fire and even the cold frost to defeat their opponents.
The Mage is a powerful and popular class in Wow whereas it develops even more power and appeal in Wrath of the Lich King. When it comes to sending destructive spells and damage to enemies from a distant, the Mage is particularly potent. In order to avoid direct damage in a battle, this is a major advantage. While the magical damage is powerful, the Mages are fully dependant on their mana for their damage.
It is very important for you to make sure that you are very familiar with the strengths and weaknesses that your Mage has when you play it. A Mage is a ranged DPS and utility class, which focuses on ranged single target and AoE spells with fire, ice or arcane magic. Mages use magic to inflict the majority if not all of their damage. They can do all kinds of ranged spells, including producing large amounts of damage on multiple targets either alone or while in a group or raid. There is a lot more to a Mage than just hurling frost, fire or arcane spells down range at enemies even though it may not seem that way.
Partying with other players or soloing, a Mage's conjuration is an ability that proves to be very helpful. You can conjure food, water and mana Stones. All of this is especially helpful in order to provide other players with what they need to stay up to par in groups and raids.
Mages offer high levels of utility with their various utility spells like Polymorph which can turn an enemy into a sheep removing them from battle. They can also summon food and water for themselves or party, steal the spells of their enemies on occasion, stop their enemies' magical abilities and have the option of summoning a temporary pet to aid them in battle which is based on their talent choices.
Unlike any other profession, you as a Mage must be nimble and ready to maneuver yourself out of harms way and into victory. Mages can get out of many tricky situations, alone with various slows, freezes, blinks and ability to incapacitate their enemies. You must be thoughtful in how you manage crowds when in groups and most importantly you must be careful how angry you make your enemies. If you unleash your full fury of magic mayhem in one quick volley, it will become evident to your prey very quickly who the biggest threat is. It takes a lot of practice to get good at but when done right you can truly lay some serious hurt on your enemies.
A Mage is for you if you are looking for a high ranged DPS toon that has the ability to do awesome in PvE or PvP.
The strengths for a Mage are as follows:
Mages can do massive damage from afar and open portals to every major city greatly save on travel time. They have strong single target damage and insane amounts of AoE damage. Their food and water summoning abilities can save money and downtime with free food and water for themselves and the group. Their utility spells such as Polymorph, Spellsteal, Counterspell and Remove Curse are requirements for high leveling raiding and a great asset in smaller groups.
The weaknesses for a Mage are that they are very low defense; rely on magical abilities and distance to protect them. They are mana dependent. Without mana, they are incapable of doing anything. Certain debuffs lower casting speed or apply a silence effect can hinder a Mage severely.
