Age of Conan Guardian Class Guide The guardian stands tall and resolute in the face of foes, secure in the finest of armor and wielding the most deadly weapons. However, they are not just hulking figures in heave armor. While Guardians have access to a full range of armor, from simple cloth to imposing suits of full plate armor, no fortress is complete without a way to strike back at its attackers and guardians have an array of combat abilities that focus on their strength: letting their opponents wear themselves down trying to penetrate impenetrable steel, then striking with all the fury of a raging wind. They can choose one-handed weapons of the blunt or edged variety and pair it up with a shield, or can forsake the shield entirely and take up one of the many polearms Hyboria's weapon-smiths offer.
Guardians may be a defensively-minded class, but like all in Hyboria, those who don't learn to fight soon perish at the hands of those who do know how to fight. Guardians who choose one-handed weapons study the human body, learning how to damage it in precise ways. They learn to exploit their opponent's vulnerabilities, as well as to Create Vulnerabilities, which leaves their foe open to devastating attacks. It begins with the lower limbs, but they soon learn to slip a blade into an opponent's chest, or bring a mace crashing down upon their head.
In the same way, they can do a bit of damage, self-healing, self-buffing, crowd control and debuffing. Whether their primary choice is to focus on one handed weapons mixed with a shield or a polearm for increased damage, range and the ability to make area attacks. They wear heavy armor and typically wield a shield unless they are focused on using a polearm.
Even if the Guardians are not specialized into a defensive feat path, they will be expected to soak up damage for the less armored and defended classes in most PvE encounters.
With all abilities involving melee attacks and combos, the Guardian is a purely frontline fighter. To large scale, they benefit from well-timed use of active blocks when they make use of a one handed weapon and shield but focusing on polearms will require the quick use of melee combos to rack up high damage.
In the game, Guardians are one of the most difficult classes to bring down with any kind of attack when they use their defensive stance. Not only can they switch to a frenzy stance which will increase their damage but make them easier to bring down but they have many group buffs like Battle Cry or Morale Boost that provide bonuses to their entire party.
Juggernaut and Tempest are the two primary feat paths that Guardians can choose. Juggernaut contains an array of skills that boost their defensive abilities, while Tempest focuses on increasing the damage of their attacks, primarily with polearms.
Guardians want to do more damage will likely favor the more reckless Tempest tree, but even those want to improve their tanking skill as much as possible will probably dabble in the tree as well. Every Guardian gains access to a varied array of self-buffs that they can use to fit the combat situation they find themselves faced with. They can use ability like the Bolster the Line buff when they face a strong, slow enemy, as it increases their maximum health at the expense of movement speed. Wall of Steel increases melee avoidance but every time that they take a hit, their stamina will be reduced.
The backbone for this guardian is their own Multihit line, which begins with a simple Sweep of their weapon and evolves into a Flashing Arc, with Weaving Rush and Turbulent Wind combos coming as they grow stronger, ensuring a flurry of fatal blows fall on their foes. Polearm-using guardians may not carry the tremendous shield of their class kinsmen but they make up for it with a quickened guard or calculating defense as well as other combos that increase their ability to evade damage and defend against oncoming attacks.
